ECCIE App

I am hoping and wishing for an ECCIE app for my Android. It would be so easy and wonderful! Is there anything in the works?

Nice thought Audrey, but I don't think that would be a good idea at all and I'm sure something like that would take money. Nothing like putting it on the Android market for everyone and their dog to see or be curious about.

What's the harm of just having your phone's browser have eccie bookmarked Audrey as its home page? It's still "right there" for you instantly. Having an app on your phone's desktop probably only saves you 1-2 clicks (depending on if you have the browser as a widget on your desktop 1 click---or 2 if you have to click "menu" then "browser".) So I don't think it would be worth the possible hassles it might bring by having an app.

I would LOVE to have an eccie app My phone's browser always shuts down and restarts the phone when I try to open eccie... it's the only website it ever does it on too. No matter what I try, it always does it....

I guess I'm in the minority (opinion wise) on this.

I'm with Tia on this. Let's not attract any more attention than needed

No real big advantage. Only saving 1-2 clicks as compared to the damage there could be by having it available as an app.

But...maybe I'm confusing what is being asked here.

When someone said app...did they mean the little widgets and apps you download from the MARKET on your phone? Or...are you just talking about a better version of Eccie on your phone that works easier on a phone than the current one?

If choice #2 is what you "all" are talking about, then....okay. I change my stance.

But if you're talking about #1 where anyone (including kids) can go into the android market and download an Eccie app, then that is the one I was against.
I would LOVE an app. I also have an android and an iphone, on both of them when I try to get on to the ECCIE site my phones will freeze or automatically close the page. I rarely ever get access from my mobile devices. And I personally think that if you don't know what it is then why would you go looking for it. You would have to personally search ECCIE to find the app anyway. So ... I can't wait!!

The OP and others have talked about an App, something you would get from the Android Market, or the App Store. This won't happen for Apple because of Restrictions by Apple in what is allowed in the App Store, but could happen for Android Marketplace.

T-Bone commented that they are working on a "Mobile" version of the website. Any time your phone visits a website, the website has the ability to determine what browser is being used. They will make ECCIE so that if it is a mobile browser, that it formats the information differently to make it easier to view on a mobile device. Many web sites support this feature. There are no changes to the mobile device, and no App needed to support this, so it would support Android and Apple, without the need for an App.

Note that today you can get to the ECCIE website with only 1-click/tap on an iPhone, and I suspect the same is true of Android. When making a bookmark in your mobile browser on the iPhone, simply choose "Add to Home Screen". Perhaps someone with an Android phone can comment on how to do this on those devices...

Note that it is up to parents to enable the restrictions on their childrens devices. Without those enabled, they can get here quite easily, with or without an App. I suggest that all parents learn how to restrict access on their kids computers, mobile phones, tablets, TV's, etc. All those devices have the ability to restrict content, and most websites are great about correctly rating their content. I see way too many cases where parents fail to do this. When you do set this up, try going to some of the websites you don't want the kids to get to, to test that you've set things up correctly.

Must an app be available on the market, or can it be something only found & available on Eccie to members?

I used to thought that would make an interesting hobby app.. couldnt even get the web version to work properly on the iphone. used to have an android.
I meant a mobile version.. I should have been more specific. In my mind, anything that runs a mobile friendly version (yahoo for example) is the same as having the app! Sorry for the confusion!

Not necessarily speaking for others, I would most likely definitely NOT have an app downloaded on my phone. That's way too easy for something BAD to happen. It's easy to clear history and such throught the web browser. If an app were to be found, not really much one can do about it. However, a mobile version of the site? Sure.
