So what's the story on Generic Viagra etc. from Canada. Is it a real deal or a scam from our neighbors to the North. I told a friend of mine I would ask about it.

is quite specific:
The patent on Viagra is expected to expire on March 27, 2012 according to the information available on the site of the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
My understanding is that nobody can manufacture or market either branded ("Viagra") or generic sildenafil citrate without Pfizer's permission until the patent expires.

A quick Google search on "generic sildenafil citrate" garners hits to a lot of Internet pharmacies that look pretty dodgy to me. Offhand, if I had to bet I'd bet "scam" myself. It's possible that Pfizer's licensed some manufacturer to make generic sildenafil citrate, but I haven't heard that they have.

One fly in the ointment: apparently Pfizer did lose its patent rights to Viagra in the United Kingdom; that might mean that some British company may be manufacturing generic sildenafil citrate. Since Canada is a member of the Commonwealth, it's possible that they may be buying it from one or more British firms. Finding out for sure will require more time and effort than I can devote to it right now.

Pillwatch article said the patent had been overturned in some Asian countries and is also available online, perhaps the source of the Canadian genetics.I guess you could take a chance on the purity of the product.Sort of like "What does not kill me makes me harder"

I have no clue whether it'd be legal to buy the generics for use in the US, even if they're being manufactured legally in the country of origin (I'd be surprised if it would be, in fact, but stranger things have happened).

Please, please, please don't mess around with drugs not purchased at a US pharmacy. Especially of you have any other underlying issues (heart, diabetes, etc...) don't f' around here. I know it sucks paying full price and giving your dollars to Pfizer, et. al.

These ED drugs are POWERFULL cardiovascular agents, this is not the type of drug you want to play with. Many counterfit drugs have been found to have TOO MUCH of the active ingredient (cheaper for the counterfiter to let the too strong batch go, than re-work or dispose). For a counterfit manufacturer of drugs, do you think they are going to spend ANY money on quality control, other than the appearance of the pill? No they won't.

I ain't proud of it but I do know the pharma biz, trust me here.

Messing around with back ally drugs is bad news, too! Many people don't even know they have a cardio disease and you start adding these meds, age and an hour of "a good time" with a 22 year old.... Look out.
However, if you "have" to take these pills, odds are that you already have a cardiac issue that you don't know about and could leave you with having a heart attack, heart arrhythmia or worse.

Well, the apparent lack of hobbyists who have tried them with success makes me think the results are not there or caution has kept anyone from trying them. I guess we have Horny Goat Weed to fall back on.
