Nationwide red flag laws

With all the dangerous and disturbing rhetoric coming mostly from far right echo chambers. It's time to enact nationwide red flag laws to identify these dangerous folks and make sure they cannot harm fellow citizens. Disarm them and get them counciling.
This rhetoric is fueling hate and division. It's time to act rather than react with prayers!

Indeed!

Such laws would even make our esteemed moderators’ job simpler.

Recent years have certainly seen much of what you describe in microcosm right here amongst us jolly sinners.

I agree with you WD.

Yes. We must get proactive with red flag laws immediately .

NEVER!

You should not ever create laws that criminalize people’s thoughts. If you want to be proactive try making civil service laws that compel local service and provide civic education along with it.

We should be able to work and live with each other even if we don’t agree with each other.

That is what civics and civility is all about.

Agree with part of your posts, but…

When such thoughts and words result in death and destruction, as we see in this country more each day. When leaders legitimize and promote the rhetoric that leads to death and destruction, what do you propose as a means of protecting the innocent?

This is not about thoughts.
It's to prevent more hate crimes. To prevent this anti govt maga movement.
To prevent events like Jan 6th 20.
Prevent mass shootings. Identifying threats and getting those people help while making sure those people cannot harm anyone.

What do most mass shootings and like crimes have in common? The perps were engaged in online sites being heavily influenced and posting about what they were going to do or had distinct warning signs to trigger these red flag laws. Red flag laws can identify threats sooner and cut down on potential crimes. Enforcement of these laws are a must

Red flag laws would get weapons and or explosives outta the hands that show the characteristics of a threat.
That goes for anybody. But the far rights rhetoric online is very concerning. Time to make this happen.

Liberals Stoke Anti-Trump Hate, Then Blame Him for Violence | Opinion

For the second time in nine weeks, former president Donald Trump was the target of an assassination attempt. In the latest incident, the would-be assassin, a fanatic supporter of Ukraine and bitter critic of Trump, reportedly got within 500 yards of Trump while the presidential candidate was playing golf at his West Palm Beach resort, but failed to get off a shot before the Secret Service took action.

After the July 13 attack on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, when he was shot in the ear and one of his supporters was murdered with two others wounded, the nation was shocked by a presidential candidate's close brush with death. Even many on the Left, including some of his Democratic opponents, at least paid lip service to the notion that this outbreak of political violence ought to lead to a lowering of the volume of harsh partisan rhetoric.

But two months later, with a different and seemingly more viable candidate in Vice President Kamala Harris leading in the polls and with their campaign of demonization of Trump in full swing, liberals seem incapable of even uttering hypocritical rhetoric about national unity.

so do those Red laws apply equally?

or not????
