Des Moines Iowa Trip Planning......

Hey all!

My name is Emily, i am thinking of planning a trip to your beautiful city of Des Moines while i am out here touring the midwest. but i have never been. so i have a couple questions. i would be planning on coming next week sometime

1. would anyone have any interest in seeing me if i do come there?

2. any places to stay away from/ or places that are better than others?

3. is Eccie very active or are there other places to advertise?

4. good food & shopping spots lol


please let me know.

i have been all over but never really to the mid west so this is a new adventure for me.

Not sure my schedule will cooperate but as far as places to stay, I'd recommend the west side. West Des Moines, Jordan Creek area are very nice and will have a ton of good hotel options along with food and shopping. ECCIE is the main board around here and P411. What types of food do you like the best? Can give you some more options.

Sushi, Mexican, Thai, Italian lol anything

Trostels Dish is a nice place for a mix of things. Cool Basil for sushi and Thai, Wasabi for sushi is good. Taco Hangover is a nice casual and fun place for mexican and drinks. Machine Shed for comfort food. Not my favorite place but people seem to love it. Fun places to grab a drink and eat: Bar Louie, Wellmans etc. There are a TON of options out that way and you can't really go wrong to be honest.

Jordan Creek Mall is the biggest shopping area in Des Moines, but it's just an average, middle america mall. It's close-ish to the airport, both are on the South/South West side of DM. I hope it treats you well if you end up stopping!

Will be returning to Des Moines tomorrow. How is the weather up there? Lots of snow?

I'm 2 hours West, but our weather is fine. You will find some snow on the ground and it's in the teens temperature wise, but it's Iowa in February. Safe travels and enjoy your visit! DM me if you need a hotel recommendation. I'm on my phone and can't remember if this is public or not. Lol
