Liberalism - Legal Plunder

Well said by Bastiat:

But how is this legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. - Frédéric Bastiat

It's theft by surrogate. The government steals on behalf of the welfare parasite; it saves them the trouble of breaking into your house. It would be more efficient if the government just gave certain people a license to steal. That way, half the money wouldn't get wasted on administrative costs.

Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters. – Daniel Webster (1782-1852)

We were never meant to be a nation of slaves but we should be our own masters.

The old; if you rob Peter to pay Paul you can always count on Paul's support.
