Visiting KC soon - I need some recommendations from the locals!

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen!

I am excited to say that I'll be visiting KC very soon! I absolutely love traveling, meeting new people, seeing new places, and doing new things.

So please, help a traveling a lady out here!

1) Are there any nice areas to stay other than the plaza area?

2) What are the best lingerie/toy/adult shops in KC?

3) Where are the best steak houses & sushi bars in town?

4) Are there any touristy places in KC, or museums worth checking out?

I'd really appreciate all the input. I could always use Yelp, but I prefer getting more accurate responses from the community here.

Thanks all!
Hey QT!! Welcome to MY city.. LOL.

#1 I would say that Zona Rosa is nice.

#2 Cirillas is okay..

#3 Gojos Japanese steak house & Drunken Fish in P& L are my personal choices

#4 I LOVE the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art

Being short because I am on the go but...

Welcome and I hope you find what you are looking for

I would consider staying in the Crown Center area (upscale shopping and the hotels--Sheraton and Weston are very nice). Weston a bit more pricey. Sheraton a little more affordable but still nice. Or near the Power & Light District (13th and Main). There are a couple of nice hotels near Power & Light and the P&L has upscale clubs and great restaurants with a great variety. As for shopping, I'd head to the Plaza (about 2 mi South of P&L Area) or 1.5 mi. south of Crown Center). Zona Rosa (north of the river) is nice but a long drive from downtown, and even farther from the Plaza/Midtown area. You can stay at Crown Center and take the trolley down to the P&L/downtown area.

Plus, whether you stay in Crown Center or downtown, the Crossroads District is right in the middle--trendy, artsy, kinda hipster bistros, some galleries, etc.

For BBQ: No one beats Fiorella's Jack Stack, IMHO (Plaza or way out south in Martin City--the best one, again IMHO).

For steak--The Majestic, downtown; Plaza III on the Plaza; Savoy (downtown); McCormick & Schmicks (seafood--Plaza).
Hi there, welcome to the City of Fountains and boulevards!

Check out the following link for Prairiefire. There's sushi, a museum, a chocolatier and the most incredible theater experience in town:

http://www.visitprairiefire.com/directory-map/

Lidia's in Crossroads has incredible Italian.

The Phoenix has swinging jazz. So does The Blue Room in the Vine district.

I'd recommend staying somewhere that parking is not going to be an issue. The Plaza can get a little jammed up in that regard, but it's a great place to shop and walk.

Golden Ox has fabulous steak but it's not fancy.

Enjoy your visit

yes fat tastes great, but I love teh fries and toppings
I live in the northland, there are a few good sushi/ tempura restaurant here. Wasahi on n.oak and Japanese steakhouse on Barry rd and n oak. Good incalls in the northland, and most important, me. Zona Rosa has good food and shopping and n oak also has a Cirilla's.

OK way too many martinis but trust me If
you're going to eat anywhere near N. Oak Or Barry Road you are missing out on what KC has to offer.
Sushi=
Jun's in the Corinth Shopping Center Prairie Village Great food needs remodeling or maybe Edokko in Lenexa noodles and steakhouse but there is a good one in Crosstown District that is good too I have not been to Domo's in Brookside but I hear it is nice and probably the coolest in town

I have not been to Prairiefire but it is going to be the up and coming crown in Overland Park and is something I will be doing on my next trip Sprint's headquarters are 1/2 mile away and are most of the corporate employers in the area. Some of KC's most expensive real estate in the state has been developed in the area.
Lydia's is good but Garrozo's is better! eat downtown with a date or call for valet parking. Where Chicken Spiedini began!!! It's been my fav for 20+years (I know shameless plug!) I miss Jenny's!!!
Phoenix blues jam happens occasionally but the Saturday brunch is not to be missed!! I used to live at the Phoenix when I lived in KC.Check the Pitch for local blues jams on Sat and Sun. Oh yeah don't miss Sunday blues jam at Knuckleheads. (iffy neighborhood with a great bar) and even BB's lawnside BBQ for some jazz and maybe even big band sounds. The owner has his own blues radio show so he knows his shit. Blues jams are the thing on weekends in KC!!
Fiorella's Jack Stack is dammed good gourmet BBQ anywhere. Try the rack of lamb Killer! I have been eating Jack's food for 35 years. The best location is out south (the best as Dallas states ,Mine too) there is one next door to Lydia's in the Garment District in the Crown Center Crossroads, P+L District, downtown area. Other great BBQ 's are Oklahoma Joe's (Maybe the best) as I own an Oklahoma Joe's smoker, Arther Bryant's and Wood Yard BBQ I attest it is the best lunch in town on a nice day!!! ask Guy from Diners. Drive inns and Dives!!! but it was great for years before he found it. slab special on sat afternoons!!!
All I can tell you is that you can get anything you want in the KC metro and if you do your homework you can find some outstanding values in fine dining. I MISS NOT LIVING THERE BUT... REMEMBER IF IT'S ON NORTH OAK or ANYWHERE NEAR BARRY ROAD excluding Zona Rosa RUN DO NOT STOP!!

If near Parkville stop by Nick and Jakes for cocktails, appetizers or a casual dinner it's another of my favs!!! quite the crowd at nigh in the bar!! and their motto is " a fair drink for a fair price" and they mean it

I will be in town on the last weekend of the month and will be visiting Weston MO and cannot wait to hear my Irish folk singing buddy, Bob Reeder when I am there Look him up. He fills the Irish pub in Weston every weekend with R rated folk songs. I'll be dining at the Avalon Cafe and staying at the Benner House B+B (Shameless plug but they deserve it)

Hope I dirtied the water for ya!!!! and I put my friends and business associates up the the "Q"( Quarterage in Westport (another shamless plug)
^^^ Now that is a wealth of information! Thank you so much RandB_fan! I wil keep the BBQ place in mind.
IMO, the best BBQ in town is Oklahoma Joe's...their pulled pork is amazing (and their fries have awesome seasoning).

Arthur Bryant's gives you plenty of meat, but I can't stand the sauce so I use Gates sauce and Oklahoma Joe's is pretty good overall, they have the best fries. A true Kansas Cityan like me has no favorite bbq joint. My favorite comes from my back yard grill. Ijs.
