Configuring Smilies Panel & First Unread Post

Fast Gunn's Avatar
Staff,

I have two unrelated, but recurring issues with the way your site is configured.

Usually, when I am searching for a particular Smilie, which is not listed on the side panel, I will use the more button, but that sometimes takes a lot of time to locate the one you need.

I would like to suggest that once you have gone to the trouble of finding the one you want and clicked on it to insert that it should become part of the panel you have on the right side.

Essentially, I would like to customize the Smilie panel to include the ones I use and eliminate the ones that I do not use. I mean what in the hell is the purpose of that egg cracking, anyway? Does anyone use that thing?

The other issue is that sometimes, a thread will show "View First Unread", but quite often, that feature is omitted and you have to hunt down the list of posts manually to find your place.

There is some glitch in your program that kicks in at times, but then is just out to lunch on others.

Could your staff please look into this. It's an unnecessary consumption of time to repeat the same process every day.

The upgrades would be beneficial to all the members, not just me to become more productive when trying to post or trying to find the latest post.

. . . Thanks for your help!

The smiley list is frustrating for me too because did you notice...that if you pull up the main list...and search for a particular smiley--say, the FOX for example, you might find it's on the right side about 35 down. If you hit refresh or you are posting in ANOTHER thread and want to use the smilies again but can't recall exactly where that FOX was but you kind of recall it was about 30-some down on the right. Well guess what? The smilies change their location each time you pull up the list. So if you remembered one of your favorites in one location, it might be in a different spot the next time. That can be frustrating. Especially if you can't recall what it was called exactly. Because if you can, you "are" able to SEARCH for it. Hit CONTROL + F and it pulls up the search box. Type in "kiss", or "clown" and then the arrow up or down key in the search box and it will bring up all possibilities with that in the title. Although there might be a clown that is not called clown.

What you might do (while waiting for them to fix the smilies), would be to keep a cheat sheet (or legend) of your favorite smilies on a small piece of paper next to your computer. Then you don't even need to pull UP the smiley box. You can just type in the code for it.

Thanks, Tia, but keeping a legend on hard copy is really an archaic method to solve a rather simple problem.

In the old DOS days, we would have to memorize a string of hieroglyphics in order to get a computer to do what you wanted, but I don't want to return to those stone cutting days.

I know the other problem you are talking about in how the smilies are randomly moved around which makes them harder to find.

This morning, I see that the goofy cracking egg is gone from the side panel, but it has been replaced with an equally arcane smilie of what looks like Abe Lincoln with a stove top hat.

. . .What in the world is the practical purpose of that one?

agree!.

the smiley list is huge, Its much larger than what ASPD used to have.

that being said, its' difficult to find the one I'm looking for and I give up thinking its not there and a few posts later someone posts using that smiley. its like arggh!

it'd be nice if the smiley list is categorized to make it easier find it. the use of keywords should help also.

I use the find prompt, but that doesn't always work as its called one way or another.

It also has duplicates in the smiley list.
