I would go a few exits north to the woodlands: Guadalajara or Lupe's and both have waits (good idea to call ahead). They also both have mesquite grills. There are a few more places almost as good but if you are asking for the best, then pick one of those 2

"Mexican Food" .... ?

Do you mean "Tex-Mex" or cuisine actually from Mexico?

Since you are from Odessa you do know the difference.

And that reminds me of a true story about a family member who many years ago was getting a vehicle repaired in an auto dealership shop in Monterrey, Mexico, and asked the manager of the dealership where the closest place was to get "good Mexican food."

He said" "San Antonio."

"Alma Latina Taqueria" (You did say "Spring," right?)

The large youner guy who used to cook there habla no Ingles, but he had the talent to replicate real Mexican food with spice levels to your preference provided by the waitresses. Harvey flooding and then Covid have caused a lot of changes, but they seem to be getting back to normal ... and they make their own chips etc ... the "old way"!

More in line with the old Mi Tierra of the late 60's and early 70's in San Antonio or the original La Fogata when Jessie originally set it up right after he had a walkin taco shop on the corner, which he replaced, and spread. Jessie orignially had 2 2-chair tables inside. That was all. Before that he was a produce manager for HEB. Service oriented.
