I had made reservations at the Vemo Island Resort and had to wait a few days for the reservation date as the resort is full. We sailed around the main Island (Fuji) on the East side and approached Vemo Island from the east side but that was the windward side so we sailed around to the other side. I radioed the resort and was we our set anchors the resort sent out a nice tender to pick us up, we were very nicely welcomed by the assistant manager of the resort aboard the tender. I took my Captain and his wife as well as Larissa for a 3 night stay. I got us 2 rooms but not too close together. We live on a 75 foot yacht and I know that they need a little separation from me and my antics with different girls.
NOW I have to say that this place is far and away the Very Best Place I have ever stayed. The entire staff is unbelievably accommodating to our every wish, the food is fantastic. The rooms which are separate duplex style Polynesian huts with every amenity great quiet A/C very modern inside and well insulated as we never heard anything from the family next door though we did meet them and their 2 kiddos, very nice and gracious people from Europe though I failed to ask where, told them that I am American but live in Andorra, they said they often go there to ski.
The resort has great amenities for the kids and they are pretty much separated from everyone except their parents. We went snorkeling and decided to scuba so the resort took us back to my yacht, we retrieved our gear and they took us out to an amazing spot with great coral and some deeper diving just off the reef, great coral, clear warm water and sooooo many fish, saw turtles and 2 enormous rays and quite a few sharks.
We were the only people anywhere near that spot and it was great. We went back after 3.5 hours of diving and the resort people took care of our dive equipment and refilled our tanks as well-all without asking for anything. The resort chef fixed us a special lobster meal at 3:30 that afternoon as we were all famished. My Chef is a fantastic cook and she was very complimentary of the food. Anyway this place is THE PLACE to go if you are in Fiji but reservations are tough, mine took 46 days to get the 2 rooms. It is quite expensive but being treated like you own the place is something that all the guests there enjoy. They will pick you up from the airport in a helicopter and bring you to the island which is a few miles north of the main Island if you so desire.
Yesterday I took the neighbor family out to my Yacht so they and their 2 boys could experience sailing, we sailed around the Island using only our sails and they loved it. The resort carried us out to the yacht and were waiting for us again when we returned-just fantastic service!!
OH BTW Larissa is amazing!
