Creeping Fascism - A View From The Left

CuteOldGuy's Avatar
Interesting article by Andrew Cockburn, pronounced koh-burn. He takes a look at what he calls "creeping fascism" from a decidedly left wing point of view. It's an interesting perspective.

Oh yeah, so you completely ignored the other thread calling you out to prove in your own words how the USA is fascist. A bullet list would be nice. Let's see if you can prove it without cut and paste.

Sa_fartman, if you had read the thread, you'd see I had already done that.

Just read what I post. I can't put it in a simple enough form for you. I need to use big words sometimes, Sa_fartman.

How about how government and industry are one and the same?
How about no longer having a Bill of Rights since the President can now imprison who he wants to indefinitely, with no judicial review?
How about being forced by the government to buy a product (health insurance) I may not want?
How about the government telling a religion they have no religious freedom when it comes to how they spend their money?
How about the government keeping track of everything that is transmitted electronically?
How about the government encouraging neighbors and friends to spy on each other and report "suspicious" activity, like paying cash for your coffee, or not wanting someone to look over your shoulder while using the internet?
How about the government printing money at will and devaluing our currency with no Congressional oversight or audit?
How about the President sending troops off to battle without a Congressional Declaration of War?
How about government taking money from me to support foreign nations that hate us, and would kill us if they could?
How about a government that gives grants and loans to failing companies, that the owners walk away with while the company goes bankrupt?
How about a government giving trillions of dollars to banks "too big to fail" just so those banks can turn around and continue screwing the people?
How about having to be groped or photographed nude to get on a plane, which is now being extended to buses, trains, and highways?
How about all of the major media being owned by 6 conglomerates that cooperate with the government for their own perks and profit?
How about a government that decides how much income you can make?
How about a government that requires protection payments in order for you to keep your property?
How about a government that tells you who you can buy milk from, or what lightbulbs you may use?

Sorry for the big words and no bullets. If you call that a "free" country, you need to review your dictionary. The marriage of government and industry (defense, media, pharma) is fascist. There is no other term to describe it.

how about ((((( shakes head ))))))).

I really wont bother to address anything but the last lightbulb "how about"

as soon as the new republican house took their place on the floor one of their first big changes was change all the lightbulbs and dump paper coffee cups ... american taxpayers pay for both

so apparently the house repubs broke some law (the way you see it), or the government cant tell you wwhat lightbulbs to use
CuteOldGuy's Avatar
Ok, out of the entire list, you chose to address the light bulb. As a dim bulb yourself, I can see why that would be the most important to you.

How about how government and industry are one and the same? Prove it. Can you prove any of that without cutting and pasting?
How about no longer having a Bill of Rights since the President can now imprison who he wants to indefinitely, with no judicial review? Cases? It's really rampant? Prove it.
How about being forced by the government to buy a product (health insurance) I may not want? Debates still out on this one. As of right now, no one's telling you to buy anything so get over it. Odds are, you'll be dead before any watered down health bill affects anyone.
How about the government telling a religion they have no religious freedom when it comes to how they spend their money? They do this to 'all' religions all the time? I've seen quite a few mega-churches...boy the government must really be clamping down on them. Laughable and unsubstantiated.
How about the government keeping track of everything that is transmitted electronically? Including what you just typed? All the stuff on this board? Why haven't they kicked down the door on you escort-hiring anti-government loon yet? -more paranoia
How about the government encouraging neighbors and friends to spy on each other and report "suspicious" activity, like paying cash for your coffee, or not wanting someone to look over your shoulder while using the internet? Did anyone else on this board get that memo? What kind of sick shit you looking at on the internet you're paranoid cog? You have no real world proof of this, just conjecture.
How about the government printing money at will and devaluing our currency with no Congressional oversight or audit? This is laughable. No congressional oversight? Nothing ever gets done because of over-oversight. Our currency is devalued because our biggest export is war. Another fail...you have failed to prove with accurate information.
How about the President sending troops off to battle without a Congressional Declaration of War? Congress gave him the power dolt.
How about government taking money from me to support foreign nations that hate us, and would kill us if they could? ...as if that's all your tax money does. You need a Gov. 101... your Utopian dream is skewed. Another fail due to lack of specifics.
How about a government that gives grants and loans to failing companies, that the owners walk away with while the company goes bankrupt? Well that does need to be fixed now doesn't it. Wouldn't call it fascist though, bad policy yes, fascist no.
How about a government giving trillions of dollars to banks "too big to fail" just so those banks can turn around and continue screwing the people? Someone's making money off those deals...sounds like capitalism and opportunity. Once again, that's not fascism unless it's 100% corporatism, which it isn't. Also, for whatever bad you like to paint banks, millions of people rely on them daily.
How about having to be groped or photographed nude to get on a plane, which is now being extended to buses, trains, and highways? If that keeps nutjobs like you off planes with bombs, grope away... though last 10 times I've ridden a subway or CT-NY train, never been groped. Come to think of, neither on a highway... so complete fail.
How about all of the major media being owned by 6 conglomerates that cooperate with the government for their own perks and profit? Prove it. As if FOX is pro-government. In a fascist society, they wouldn't get away with half-the-shit they do. Another fail.
How about a government that decides how much income you can make? This one is just funny. Last time I checked you can make as much as you flipping please...as long as you work at it. Don't get sour because you failed in life and want what others have. I've owned two businesses and made as much I put into it. I'm as liberal as the next guy, but blaming the government for your failure says a lot about you. If you're referring to up-taxing those making shitloads, that isn't fascism, but that's a whole other thread.
How about a government that requires protection payments in order for you to keep your property? What the fuck? Prove it.
How about a government that tells you who you can buy milk from, or what lightbulbs you may use? Well yes...it's called being part of society. If that's your idea of fascism you're just stupid. By the way, Mexico is probably a day's drive for you...all the raw milk and 100 year old bulb technology for you.

Each one of those have been proven in another thread. You asked for bullet points, Sa_fartman, and I gave them to you. I'm not going to rehash the same stuff just to give opportunities to regurgitate the establishment line. If you're interested, use the search function.

I'm here because you entertain me. It's fun to see how far people will go to defend the indefensible. It just proves they can't think for themselves, and believe the shit the government tells them.

And let's be honest, the only reason you respond is because I entertain you. You enjoy feeling superior, even when you're not. You feel threatened when establishment lies are exposed, because your security depends on the establishment. So you entertain yourself by calling me names, and never responding with substance. So ok. I know that's how it works here.

It's all been proven. You ignore it. It's your prerogative. I want to live in a free country. You don't. It's a matter of preference. Enjoy!

(this has got to go down as the best politician answer of all time...basically, I can't prove shit so do your own research. )

No, in a nutshell, Sa_fartman, I have already proven all of it. I don't feel like going through it again just to give you the opportunity to make fun of the facts and feel superior. I didn't say do your own research, I said use the search function to find mine.

You will regurgitate the establishment line anyway, so there isn't really any point.
