Naismith - Inventor of Basketball & The Rule Book

Last night I watched the story of one man's dream to bring the original rule book created and written by Dr. Naismith back to KU. Dr. Naismith had been the first coach at Kansas University and it was felt to be the rightful place for this document. I understand the pride and value something such as this can hold, however find it difficult to comprehend spending 4.3 million to make this dream reality.

During the same auction, the Emancipation Proclamation was among the items sold. A piece of American History I believe far greater than sports memorabilia did not bring in nearly that amount.

That kind of funds can feed so many homeless, help veterans regain their lives or assist in finding cures for cancer. In my mind, I can see how important it would be to a fan. However, my heart just thinks it is materialistic and senseless.

Maybe if it was an Aikman Jersey w/ his scent still on it I would pay 100k...lol

I watched the same show for a bit, but basketball is a game that is over my head.

Those that know how vertically challenged I am get the joke.

It really is unbelievable how much some sports memorabillia can go for.

$100 for Aikman's jersey? hmmm.

What haven't I ever heard of Marilyn M.'s panties at auction?

You know a few got lifted during the 'investigation'.

Back on topic, it was a good show, especially with Dr. Allen finally coming into the effort to win the Basketball rules.
