Best City?

For those of you who know the country well, what is the best Mexican city to live in?

Well, what are you looking for? Just cheap living or can you spend some money? Do you want beach activities? Is easy access to the US (flights or driving?) important? Do you want to live near other Americans? Big city or quiet country life? Do you want lots of strip clubs and brothels, opportunities to meet civilian girls, or something else? Do you speak Spanish?

International Living is a good site to learn about where to live as an expat, and they have this page:

It's not at all monger oriented, but has some good advice.

Personally, I'm shooting for Ensenada. I like the closeness to Tijuana and the US border, the easy access to the ocean, and the number of Americans in the area. It's a bit pricier than some places but not the most expensive.
All good questions.
I will definitely checkout the link.

I usually prefer cities to the countryside. While there are times when I like to get away and have access to nature I need to be in a place where I can easily stay connected. Most of my work is remote which requires good internet.

I’m definitely interested in cheap living when and where possible.

I do like brothels. Not so much strip clubs. I guess I like the idea of strip clubs much more than the actual experience of them. I tend to leave with less money than I’d like and more frustrations than I walked in with… at least that’s been my experience in the US. I’m sure most guys here know how that goes. But 90% of the experiences I’ve had in brothels have been good ones. And even the bad experiences were educational in a way that I felt like I benefited from it. Most of that was in Thailand. Have never been to one in Mexico but I would definitely love to check them out.

Opportunities with civilians? I’m not dogmatic or jaded like a lot of guys on here seem to be. If I met someone and things looked like they were getting serious my pay for play days would most likely come to an end. Or at the very least a significant pause.

I wouldn’t mind living within an hour’s drive of a good beach area.

I do not speak Spanish. Had the obligatory Spanish classes in college and owned some audio courses at one time. But never actually spent enough time on it to learn anything. Have always wanted to learn though.

You might want to look at some of the ex-pat areas in and around Baja California. I like Ensenada and Rosarito. Lots of Americans retire there, since it is very close to the US but much cheaper prices. Close to the beach. It's a pretty big city, and not too far from Tijuana which has anything that Ensenada doesn't. There are places where you can live among other Americans and barely have to speak any Spanish -- although living in a foreign country you really should learn the language.

Mexican strip clubs are basically brothels, so that's a good option. Ensenada has a few but Tijuana is famous for them.
Awesome, thank you. Sounds like what I’m looking for.

My best advice is to visit Mexico City and stay there for 2 months, meanwhile you learn about Mexico, prices, culture and other things.

After that, you will take a better decission based on your experience in these two months.
