Nut Case at QuikTrip

I gotta get some feedback on this one. Still not sure what to think. First, I believe that adults in society have a moral obligation to protect children and the elderly even if they are not your own family.

I park at QT last night after dark. It's cold. After a few seconds of collecting my shit (phone, money), I turn to open the door and an older woman is right at the driver's window! I would say she was 75-80 years old. Not wearing a coat. Startled the shit out of me. I am thinking she must have some problem with where I parked, or God knows what. So, I am preparing for my typical response to things like this which is "Piss off". I did nothing discourteous much less illegal.

Nope. She wants a ride home! What? My mind is racing for what this could be...or is it just that? Why not call UBER? She probably too old to know of it. Later, I realized that I should have arranged an UBER for her and been done with it. Didn't think of it. How did she get here? Does she have a weapon? Is that a setup for a carjacking or robbery?

And she acts like she wants to leave right away. Perhaps she was scared of someone nearby or trying to get away from them. So, I said "Well, I am going to QT first." Buys me time. Anyway, she goes into QT with me. Weird. Like she didn't want me to get away. She tells me where she lives which is in a nice part of old Leawood. I know where it is and what she described of it was accurate. I live in Leawood. So finally, I come to the conclusion that that she is an elderly woman, and I am in-shape younger (than her) man with a martial arts brown belt. Unless she has a weapon, this isn't going to be much of a threat to me. She has to know that wont work. So, I ask what's in her bag. She opens it and shows me all books and an ipad. Ok, so the best way to resolve this is take her the short distance home and be done with it.

She was never threatening or rude. She was obsequious instead.
But she talked crazy shit all the way there. She thought the phone companies and the water utilities where run by the mafia. She told me the phone co was recording her phone calls and selling her information to single men who were calling for dates. Of course, she wasn't interested. She told me multiple times "You are just wonderful". I am getting you home lady!

She told me right where to drive to. Right to her house which she had accurately described before we got to it. Ok. Good deed done.

Last thing she said "I have a nice head of lettuce inside. I can go get it and give it to you for your trouble". No thanks, I have a nice head of lettuce at home.

Good job. Might consider calling police have them do a welfare check especially is she wasn't dressed for the weather.

She sounds like maybe she is off a med or two. I have seen customers get like that. They remember things like the home she has lived in most of her life. Then are out in left field when you talk about current things. It was nice that you got a old lady home. I have given a few people rides over the years. Probably not the wisest of things to do. In some cases I was the one to offer. I am still alive and had no trouble. Most people are good.

AL, yes you banked Karma.

Btw, QT has policies to handle distressed anyone, that dates back to when being a "safe place" was a huge thing for various businesses.
Good job AL. I had a crazy one once as well. I was living in a really small town east of KC, right off 24hiway. I go to work REALLY early, like 2:30am. I'm pulling a 20ft trailer behind my F150. As I'm pulling out of my drive way this guy walks up. Now mind you, I don't know him, (and there's only 75 people in town, so I know everybody). I assume he wandered in off the hiway. He asks if I can give him a ride into the next town which is about 5 miles away. At first I'm like NO way am I putting this guy in my truck at 2:30am. I thought about it, though and realized if I didn't, then I would be leaving him on my doorstep, (literally), and he knows I'm not home. My wife is asleep in the house. Needless to say, I gave him a lift, but I was pretty nervous about doing it. I was just more worried about telling him no, and then leaving him standing there.
You did a good thing AL, and it seems you checked everything out to be safe. I am with UC on QT being the "safe place". They could handle it and actually have the police check her out and escort her home, that is part of what they do.
Very nice of you to help her out. Thanks for being a good boy scout.

All kinds of people hanging out at HyVee, WalMart, etc, whose house “burned down”, whatever, looking to get a place to stay and showing the pitiful amount of change in their pocket!

Never had any of them ask for a ride or offer something I might be interested in, in exchange!!

I like the OP tend to be partial to women in my encounters!

1. Definitely karma points. Well done.
2. 98% of govt IS mafia so that's not to crazy.
3. Phone companies do sell your info (maybe not specifically how and why with her reasoning) so there's that.
4. You turned down head from a woman?
