Most reasonable place for brake job

I am looking for input on places that do good work for a reasonable price. I can't afford the dealership right now after being out of the hobby last month. Somewhere south preferably. Any ideas people? Thanks

This is NOT a barter thread. You guys/ladies are just all so very resourceful. Sometimes you guys are better than Google! Thanks in advance

Scarlett, you're best bet is to locate a guy who'll do it himself, and not have to deal with a shop. My wife has had excellent results getting work on her car done right and yet inexpensively by going to a Jiffy Lube or similar place and talking to the technicians there. Nearly all of those outlets have at least one guy who has the skills to help you, and always for far less than you'll pay at a brake place or dealer. She's had particulary good luck with that at a shop in Lakeway, and my 19 year old son also has a very good friend who has done our brakes, tune ups, and other things. PM me for details.

Beware lies and half-truths; remember there are always at least two sides to every story.
Depends. If your pads are worn and merely need to be replaced, anyone can do it quickly and inexpensively, including these "mobile mechanics" who will come to you and to the work in your driveway or curbside. $50 per wheel?

If however your pads were worn x,000 miles ago and you kept driving, then you may have scored or warped your brake "rotors" which is bigger and more expensive job and if the car has ABS brakes, it could be more finicky - -and in that case choose a good brake shop. $350 per wheel?

Though it does not directly answer your question, sorry the lesson here is: replace your brake shoes BEFORE they need to be replaced and it ends up being the way cheaper option in the short, medium and long-haul.

Good luck with that. Try mobile mechanic first, like these

... can't vouch for these specific ones, they are just provided as an example of what's out there.

Good Luck!

Not South, but an excellent and affordable mechanic who does great work and is the single most honest auto mechanic I know.

Midas at North 183 @ Oak Knoll next to Catfish Parlor. Very honest owner....ask for owner....

AWESOME SERVICE!!

VERY Reasonable Rates! They will check your brakes for free and tell you exactly what you need and how much it will cost and it will be the lowest price in town. Really.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys.
NOT Brakes Plus. They broke a sprag and then charged us to replace it (I got the parts). Since the brakes won't work without ... I bitched and they took it off. Lifetime warranty that I'll never use.

I have the shop manual (Honda shop manual) and I'll do almost anything that doesn't have they warning "serious injury or death".
Did you get your brakes fixed? What shop, etc did you choose? Are you happy with the price/ service?
