Irrespective of whether he finishes this term or not, President Trump’s presidency will be a remembered by history as a time when the nation took a step backward. It will also be viewed as a time when we started pondering our society’s values and objectives as we have not done before. The analysis will be deeper, more personal, as well as broader. The things we have prioritized as a civilization –especially the paradigms defining economic success and the relevance of materialism- are coming under scrutiny as never before. We are coming to understand that those priorities –as we pursue them- are not sustainable. In terms of importance this stuff matches or maybe supersedes the importance of issues related to race, gender, sexuality. We will emerge from Trump’s extraordinary and breathtaking failures and shortcomings as a stronger nation, more thoughtful, more altruistic, kinder, fairer, wiser. That is my prediction. This is how we roll on. This is how we must roll on. We cannot allow Trump’s egomaniacal and immoral pursuits and behaviors to break us or to wreck our democracy’s trajectory toward greater enlightenment.
