GNU all over again

I've decided to go back to my UNIX roots. As such, I'm ISO your favorite Free Linux distros for client-side (and why).

I need some office-like apps for compatibility/coexistence with MS app formats (+SAMBA?), .docx, .xlsx, rtf, .pdf, .eml etc. It would reside within a SAN (iSCSI), server and private cloud environment and should support VMs - but not critical. A decent graphical interface would be very nice to have. (I'm just lazy sometimes but I do have plenty of screen real estate)

DM is fine.
I understood about 50 , or 20 , hmmm, well no, honestly zero percent of that paragraph . LoL !!!

"Screen real estate" just means I have multiple large monitors. The rest... you'll just have to trust me on. Hope that helps.
