Yes Venmo does this too. Except Venmo takes a cut of the payment. You get around it by saying it isn't a business transaction. Someone I know who pays contractors will put down bail, dinner,lunch, etc

MOST deposit requests are, with little doubt, coming from “Mother Russia” in which case American law will never apply!!
