Question about Bartering

I've always declined the "barter" requests; however, I wonder if I'm missing out on something. Has anyone had good or bad experiences? Is it better for the guys to explain a purchase from a store rather than a cash withdrawal at the atm?

For the ladies, do you have a list of items you will accept or do you take things you wouldn't necessarily go out and buy but happy to have? Does it cut into your time with your cash paying clients or do you think it brings you biz you wouldn't otherwise have? Is it always an even trade or do you require the item bartered be valued higher than the donation?

I've had such a variety of things offered... everything from a massage to a guy travelling out from out of town who brought a 60" tv with him to barter (wasn't sure it wasn't coming off the wall of the hotel room). The most common barter request is photography or website design (no thanks due to security issues). The weirdest request was for $200 worth of postage stamps (I really don't mail that many letters).

Lmao- postage stamps really---?

I once bartered but only because that's what she wanted. A $150 HEB gift card weekly for fs twice weekly. I THINK she had a powder problem and thusly spent her hobby earnings on extracurricular activities and really needed that. I also gave her a $1000 walmart card for Xmas to get stuff for apt and gifts for the kiddie ...

It's common among stamp collectors to have unused and even mint condition stamps. They sometimes get their stamps from buying estates or collections and get them below face value.

if anyone offers used iPhones in good shape, take 'em. You can sell 'em fast on craigslist.
Just two weeks ago I sold a used iPhone 4 for $250.00 and a used iPhone 3g for $85.00 in two days. Probably could have gotten more if I had held out. Some folks take 'em to Mexico for re-sale and others exchange sim cards.
Don't deal with any out of towners tho, usually scammers. Item for cash only.
I thought about offering them here for provider services but didn't think I would get any takers.

I'm curious as to why you couldn't take a custom made website in exchange? I think most webmasters on this board would be familiar with how to secure the site for you. Foreign host, anonymous domain ownership. etc etc
Shoot I need to barter. I need my brakes done by a professional.

I think it's an interesting concept provided both parties can reach an agreement before hand. I think purchase like gift cards etc are more easily explained than atm withdrawals. I've seen some providers with links on there websites to Amazon etc, where if you purchase items from their wish list, it counts towards sessions etc.

I might have considered the stamps if they were collectibles, but they were just the liberty stamps that will always mail a letter even when postage goes up. He said he buys them for work in high volume.

Anyone who needs car work done let me know, send me a message.
I love to barter, most of the time its things I need, but occasionally its something I want but can't justify spending my money on(something fancy or lavish).

The list atm-

Windshield, MS office 2010 key, 4gs Iphone(Sprint)
