Why

When a provider or hobbiest write a long winded thread, why do people responding to the topic find the need to also quote the whole freakin story vs just leaving a comment?

I generally try to edit quoted content to only include what is relevant to my response. But sometimes you're in a hurry.

What really hurts my eyes is seeing a wall-of-text comment quoted in a wall-of-text response, which in turn gets quoted in its entirety... etc.

You have to scroll and scroll through endless repetition trying to find the one tidbit of "new" commentary.
