Lately I hear from the local gossip that several homes have been violated and stuff taken. Some ransacked and others with needless nasty damage done by the burglars and thieves.
Some of this would not be happening if SAPD did not stop the WOAI crime reporting service. It appears that our Chief thought it would help reduce crime by stopping criminals see where arrests happen and so avoid those areas.
But the opposite is the result.
Indeed had I not been in the local loop, and many folks are too busy with work, raising kids, paying bills etc and don't keep up with local gossip - I would not have known what is happening in my part of town.
I must say that we used NOT have any of this kind of stuff happening here, but began with a few bicycles being taken from back yards and so on till today when the problem is almost a crisis.
While the crime reporting MAY have influenced criminals choice of targets it is definitely helped our ability as a community to react.
And when I see LE swarming in certain parts of town for other sorts of monitoring, sw etc - it makes me wonder what are they doing! Is not our safety more important than a victimless event that is hurting nobody and possibly helping some person feed her kids?
