Anyone on here had any dealings with google voice as there "private line", just really curious about it and wanting to know if anyone has had any luck with it. Please either reply or pm me.
yes I use it for everything. I give out my google number to people who I normally wouldn't want to have my real number. The caller ID doesn't work like you'd think. The caller has to say their name and then you press a number to accept the call or deny it.
Google voice can also be set to be your default voicemail. Then voicemails get transcribed (sometimes accurate) and sent to your phone as a text. Also you can just play them off your phone without making a phone call.
All of this syncs with the google voice web interface.
It is very slick once you get it all figured out. Took me a day or two.
Haven't tried it yet, but Google 411 is really good, all computer and it understands what you say or asks for more info. After you find what you want they connect you and it's all free.
Been playing with it and I really like it!! Had signed up on the waiting list like 3 weeks ago but got tired of waiting so I bought an invite for it off of eBay for 5 bucks.... Money well spent as it's cheaper than any hobby phone with free minutes
Yeah I use google voice and it's great. I can't recommend it enough!
One word of caution though.
I didn't know this, but whatever the name attached to your email is, that is the name it will say on your voicemail or whatever. I originally had my GV number attached to my personal email address. I didn't know it was telling people my real name until a guy called by my real name. So be sure if you use it, you sign up with an address where you don't have a name you don't want associated with the account listed as the account holder.
you know it's good if people are selling invites, lol, that's hilarious. If you buy an android phone it's pre installed.

I know on the nexus one that isn't a fact.
I never had an invite. Just started using it when I got the phone in january.
Older phones I imagine that's true.
edit.. I wasn't dogging on the OP for buying an invite, just laughing at the people smart enough to sell them. I'd buy one to if I didn't have it.
I didn't know the newer phones were set like that. Guess now that GV is gaining speed we'll see newer options like that. I'm running GV on a jail broken iPhone and haven't had any problems. One thing to keep in mind, don't store contacts on the site, transcribe VMs, and keep texts discreet. Google keeps random records of info on their sites.
Problem is I have an iPhone... Which isn't really a problem, just when it relates to google. But I got tired of waiting for my invitiation so I just bought one.
