In November 2007, two month's after Texas' castle doctrine law took effect, Joe Horn shot a pair of burglars near the home next to his. Horn claimed the castle doctrine as his defense, but it was not his castle he was protecting.

So what's changed since then? What do you think?

Joe Horn ended up moving somewhere, most likely out of town. I was there when quannel x-lax came visiting the neighborhood. You couldn't hear him over the bikers revving their Harleys. I was hoping he would shut down Fairmont Parkway or Red Bluff as the car needed target practice.

I'm 99% sure that nobody was home at the house that got robbed. There are 2 lines of thought, one is that no bad guys will be watching the neighborhood, which is good. The second line of thought it's real easy to go to HCAD.org and obtain the tax records of a 'Joe Horn', so Joe ends up looking over his shoulder the rest of life.

No doubt I'm going to catch hell for this, but here goes. My take is that he was an old, angry, and bitter old man looking for trouble. He should've done like the 911 operator told him to and stay in the house. The fact these guys had a criminal history had no bearing, he didn't know it at the time of the killing. He should've gotten the license plate, and if he had access to a camera or cell phone took a couple of pictures. Instead he was judge, jury, and executioner and due to his doing this, he life was ruined. I think an unmarked police car showed up just a couple of minutes after the shooting.

Now if those guys were attacking someone, then by all means take action, but these guys were leaving after committing a burglary, and they were shot in the back.

Had they done anything physical such as battery, rape, shoot someone, etc., then load up the AR with 30 rounds of .300 blackout and go to town. No mercy!

Last, I'm not some sort of anti-gun snowflake as I support President Trump and support opening up the second amendment. I have 2 AR's, 12 gauge auto with 00 buckshot, 9mm and .357 pistols, and I go to the range on occasion. I also have a CHL. No doubt there are times when someone should use deadly force, but IMHO this wasn't one. Something about a person just committing a burglary and then getting killed by by being shot in the back just doesn't set well with me. Perhaps I took my CHL training too literally.

DJ-
I understand what you are saying but the world would be a better place if we all had neighbors like Joe.

Maybe those two thugs should have just stopped and given up.....if they weren't doing so much wrong.

Clearly they didn't want to be caught alive.
Fuck Joe Horn..

We need more Zach Peters out there

Yep! If I catch you stealing from me, or anyone for that matter, I'll go "Joe Horn" on you in an instant. Back, front, side, top, bottom - I don't care. If I have the opportunity, you're thieving ass will never steal again.
Even if it costs me everything I've spent a lifetime to build and save, you're ass will be mine.
And yes, DJ, I understand and respect your stance on this issue.
