South Dakota gov. Indian reservations

Several of the Indian reservations there are saying the governor is no longer welcome to visit.

I have no understanding of Indian reservations. I believe they are considered totally separate from states, maybe even state laws.

I did see several of them show unemployment rates as high as 80 %, even with casinos.

Is there no work available ? No investors to create jobs ?

Look at Oklahoma and how he want to tax the fuck out of the Indians
Indian casino, rip you off, pay there help less and treat them poorly, allow where others aren't, pay no tax, run the tribe which helps members are some long term area residents.

Most of them have no initiative to work and therefore the unemployment rate is thru the roof as well as alcoholism is rampant

As far as jurisdiction they do have tribal police who handle some crimes but if it is a major crime such as murder then the FBI has jurisdiction. And if you are traveling thru the reservation be sure an obey all traffic laws as I have heard from buddies that were caught speeding and it cost them a pretty penny to pay for the ticket.

I have no concept of how reservations function.

In my younger days I drove my VW Beetle with my dog around the SW and stopped at the Four Corners to take some photos. The New Mexico gas stations had attendants that looked like they just stepped out of a Norman Rockwell painting.

And as far as the Mescalero reservation is concerned a vast majority of their income is derived from their resort called Inn of the Mountain God's. Beautiful resort with a casino and beautiful golf course as well as world class hunting and fishing. I know that they do charge an arm and a leg to hunt a trophy class elk which they have many on the reservation. They also lease the land where the ski run is located from the state so they make $$ off of this.
Years ago, my late Wife and I were in New Mexico where we came accross a small casino literally in the middle of no where.

It was nice inside, of course the odds of actually winning in there was pretty remote.

Also, all of the surrounding Reservation was an absolute slum.

And the housing is absolutely like visiting a slum but as mentioned they all do drive brand new pickups compliments of Uncle Sam and our tax $.
