Troops! We are leaving...

The Obama administration is marking the official end of the war in Iraq. How can you officially end something that the democratic party has maintained was illegal? You can't obviously. So this action by Obama puts the lie to what has been said by Obama himself.

Our troops performed magnificently (as usual) even with half the government of the US against them.

So what have we learned; war in Iraq-legal, US troops-magnificent.
Can't you just be happy they're coming home and those who are coming home are still alive?
The War ended early for over 4500 dead and still goes on for the many many maimed, disfigured, burned, concussed, and damaged.

All for not very damn much.
think Bush was the one set the pullout date, just be glad we are leaving somewhere we had no business being in the first place.

The legal argument is that if you mark this as the "Official" end of the war then the war by definition must have been legal. Of course I'm happy people are coming home including three cousins and one possible brother in law but I'm talking about legalities.

If you stole something and were forced to give it back do you require a bill of sale to make it official?

If you were squatting in someone else's house and the owner threw you out, would you tear up a lease?

It is a simple legal concept, if we illegally marched into a country then we would not have an official ceremony on our withdrawl. This action by the Obama adminstration should now and forever show that the war was legal. Anyone who says otherwise is just demagoguing.

It was a colossal waste of lives and treasure for nothing.

Remember, it was a war for oil after all....yep gas is still three bucks a gallon.
As a veteran of the first Iraq war and "Desert Storm" I spent 6 months there and 6 months at Dahran Airbase as the scuds came flying in and worked 7 days a week...12 hrs a day...sometimes more and I believed we were right to go there before...not this time though...we should have finished the job then.
I spent 10 years in the Air Force and am a veteran and I still wish today I could still serve!!
Im glad the guys and gals that followed after me are coming home!
Welcome home!

Hey Dirty Dog, why don't you give me the proper credit for Cote de Pablo?

To put things in prospective, tomorrow the 16th of December is the anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. The battle lasted about three weeks and cost the allies 80,000 men killed, wounded, captured, and missing. We won by taking back what the Germans took but at horrible cost.

The only potential benefit I can see it the "revolutions" that have happened in the last few months in the middle east. NATIONALS using the internet stood out in the open, tempting local offices to kill them and have changed many of those countries or at least started some change! And we got to see a lot of those "revolutions" through the new technology. Did American intervention over the years foster this change? Perhaps? But there are many other issues on the table. And did these folks in foreign lands start the "occupy" movement? Which according to some has degraded in too many cases to Hooliganism levels? Well that is for a different thread. YES, welcome home to our troops. Hey, more bodies for border patrols here?
