How Do You Change a URL

Okay, I'll admit it, I'm not very computer savvy.

I've tried to Google this, but I haven't been able to find anything "dumbed down" enough for me to follow it or fully understand it.

How can I change a URL to give it a name that makes it more descriptive.

For instance, the URL for this page is:

http://www.eccie.net/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=3

How can I change it to read:

Changing a URL Name

And still have it link to this page?

If in your favorites bar - right-click it, go to Properties, General, and type the name there.

I can't believe I didn't know that, especially since I've done it before.

ok...I am not computer illiterate, but I still don't get it. I saved a page in faves, renamed it via general properties, but still cannot figure out how to get the renamed link to reflect the new name as opposed to just the link when posting said link.

On Mozilla click on Bookmarks and then go down to Unsorted bookmarks then go to bookmarks menu and you should see a rectangular box to rename whatever bookmark you want

Thank you, but I use IE8, not mozilla. Also, I know how to rename the bookmark. Just not to have that "renamed name" show up in a link I post.

eliminate the spaces

copied/pasted exactly what you typed but got that ^^

homepage[/url"]www.yahoo.com"]homepage[/url]

[ u r l = " h t t p : / / w w w . y a h o o . c o m " ] homepage [ / u r l ] with no spaces would look like homepage

Enter this...

[URL=URL of Web Page]Link Label[/URL]

For example...

This...

[URL=www.foxnews.com]Fox News[/URL]

Will produce this...

Fox News

Nothing to it.
