Adding hyperlinks

So I've looked in the user CP options but I don't see the option to enable adding links that would let me post the URL of a site, then have the option to type something else and have it as the hyperlink.

Something along the lines of <someurl.com>text I want to show as the hyperlink </link>

Is there a way to do this? I know the add link button is there, but it just adds the url as the hyperlink as far as I've seen. Standard html embedding structure doesn't seem to work, and I'm not quite sure how to do the php/BBCode structure.

Why is there not a button or option to add it though? The closest I've come is click the insert link button, put in the url then replace the url text with what I want instead.

Before you click the insert link icon type out what you want to be linked, highlight it THEN click the icon. Insert your link and whatever you highlighted becomes the link.
