Tipping

This is not so much about tipping a provider as much as it is about tipping in general/
That's why its not in Coed Discussions -

I also saw a story on tipping on the news

Recall the Seinfeld where George put paper money into the tip jar and the calzone got got mad......

Instead of a Jar for tips the new thing is to have a big screen that the cashier turns to you to finalize your credit card payment and it has option, ~10%, 15% 20% or NO TIP.. then after you choose, the tip the screen goes back to the cashier.

The technology, square, http://www.bostonglobe.com/business/...eGO/story.html

is useful to get money out of a customer

The news show I saw showed a starbucks with a Square Machine in it and remarked how people rarely say NO TIP.

That articles says how people are tipping, even when they get no service. they get food to go at a counter. All becase the screen has buttons and its easy to pay and tip and not realize you paying $6 for a cup of coffee. Which I find stupid, just stupid

This caused me to google tipping and I read this site about tipping.

At any rate, here is the site I read about tipping

Why are servers paid below minimum wage?! Why is that allowed to be!? So people are tipping because we feel horrible that the government refuses to pay you what someone at McDonalds makes? Why aren’t they tipped? They’re doing almost the same thing. They are serving the public in an establishment that’s disgusting compared to your restaurant. People yell at them constantly. People fight almost daily in the place that they work. We don’t tip people who work at McDonalds, though. Why? Because they are paid minimum wage! Why the hell aren’t servers paid minimum wage, and because of that is it up to the public to make up for it? Was that that easy of an argument?
“You’re hired! Also, you’ll be paid half of what minimum wage is.”
“What? Why?”
“Oh, because the good people that come in our are obligated to give you money. They just have to.”

I found the whole thing interesting

what are your thoughts?

which isnt to say I don't tip,
I do
I'd like to point out, 2 weeks ago, I went with (insert girls name)to waffle house, we got excellent service, the girl made me my own pot of coffee and went out of her way to make sure we were happy

I wasnt wearing my glasses, so I couldn't fill out the tip/sign the reciept. I gave (insert girls name)my card and she took care of it

at home, I looked up how much I checked because I wasnt sure how much jennie tippped,AND I had I joked to the boss as we were paying/leaving

Sir, how was your meal?

-Horrible, our waitress(who was in clear ear shot) made me my own pot of decaf , and got our order 100% right(I said it in a frustrated inflection) and she made sure we were happy THREE OR FOUR TIMES

the waitress laughed, the manager grinned

but I didnt ask (insert girls name)what she tipped,(we usually tip 20% since we go there bimonthly) and we have always had great service...yes always,
True, we are there at 5am on a saturday, so hardly anyone is there but I tip/reward when someone makes me happy

I don't see how handing me a sandwhich, or coffee deserves a tip from a to go order, I like service.
