Google Voice hobby phone lost?!?!?!?!

crozwell's Avatar
So I have used a few different gmail/voice accounts over the last year or so, but all using the same fwding number(my cell). Well just deleted an old account and was trying to set up a new one with a new voice number, and got this msg 'The forwarding phone on your account cannot be used to obtain a Google Voice number.' Apparently my fwding number is somehow not allowing me a new google voice number, not sure if its because I have used it a few times in the past and now its blocked or something? Anyone ladies or gents ever have this issue? Now i'm stuck with no hobby 'phone', which doesnt bode well for hobbying

What carrier is the forwarding number with?
Get a different phone/texting app. Google voice isn't your only choice.

Fuq.. Just typed in a detailed response and accidentally hit back in my browser.. Well it's gone now

Here is what you can do if you want to use GV..

Sign up for an free unlimited texting account at pinger.com
Sign up for a new gmail account
Sign up for GV using ur new account
Use the free number provided by pinger as your forwarding number
Text only a limited number of people over a day or so.
Add your original number as an additional forwarding line
Forward your calls to your original line.

You're all set!

I have GV numbers but mainly was texting. Pinger has been fine for that. I've used the calls a few times but the quality hasn't been the greatest.

Hope that helps.

There are many alternatives:

TextMe is a great texting/phone app. Doesn't cost a dime and minutes can be earned by watching ads which you only have to get if you want to make a lot of voice calls.

Textie

TextPlus

TextNow

All of these don't have to cost you anything. TextMe is preferable since you can lock the app with a pin code and easily allows photo sharing with other TextMe users, plus it's easy to ditch your number and get another one. Textie is the only one that is text only, the other ones have voice calling as well, I just never use voice much.

One iPhone, 4 different numbers. Perfect fucking hobby phone.

Other nice part about pinger it that it can work on inactive phones because all you need is wifi.
