Mosque at ground zero

I am appalled that so many of my friends are against the mosque near Ground Zero. We should allow it in order to promote tolerance.

I also propose that two gay nightclubs be opened next door to the mosque to promote tolerance in the mosque.

We could call them "The Turban Cowboy" and "You Mecca Me Hot".

Next door should be a butcher shop that specializes in pork and have an open barbeque with pork ribs and across the street a very daring lingerie store called "Victoria Keeps Nothing Secret.”

And next door, in flashing lights, open an Adult Toy Shop.

I think for the purpose of tolerance we should build accordingly around the mosque.

Promote tolerance!

My nephew came up with a great quote about this:

"To be fair, we've been building ground zeroes around mosques since 2003."

I am not against the building of a Mosque near Ground Zero, now on the other hand I do think it could bring hostility towards the Mosque.

Its so hard to find any precedence of such an event
Considering that it's not actually a mosque, and it's not being planned at ground zero, I think it's just more manufactured poutrage. There was a Muslim prayer room in WTC 1 prior to the 9/11 attack, but after the 1993 bombing, and that didn't seem to cause any of this faux outrage. There is still a Muslim prayer room at the Pentagon, and it isn't causing this much outrage. I think if the Muslims are not allowed to build a community center near ground zero, then Catholics should not be allowed to build a church near schools or playgrounds, considering the history of child torture and abuse.

"There is still a Muslim prayer room at the Pentagon"......I believe it is an inter-faith chapel where ALL denominations are allowed to pray. Unless you know of a different room that I'm not aware of at the Pentagon.
IMHO, the issue goes deeper than just the building of the mosque itself. I guess it depends on whether or not you believe that there are substantial numbers of Muslims in our country that covertly support terrorist organizations with the aim of attacking and hurting the USA. The Imam that's supporting this mosque to this day refuses to reveal where the majority of the funding for this mosque is coming from. I think that's a problem. I think after the attacks on 9/11, the American people have a right to know who's funding such a mosque near Ground Zero. This particular mosque is by no means the only one. "Mega" mosques are being considered in Tennessee and many other states around the country. If you look at the costs of these ventures, it's clear that they are receiving substantial funding from overseas. I'd simply like to know who it is that is providing these millions and millions of dollars before I decide whether to support such projects.

This article makes pretty clear what certain Islamic Organizations have in mind for the USA. That's one of the reason's I'm just a tad bit suspicious of their refusal to reveal where the funding for these mosques is coming from.

They got a right to build it, but it's a truly bad idea. Does the whole backlash against the mosque make us look bigoted? A bit. But considering US Christians didn't go around burning mosques and Muslim business in mass in the US after 9/11, I think we are doing pretty good. Anywhere outside of the US and Europe, and there would have been a pogrom.

Call me a bigot, but I am very wary of any Islamic institution. Have you ever read the Koran? It's truly disturbing read that calls for endless war against non-Muslims, and relegates women to second class citizens and non-Muslims to third class citizens. It is contemptuous if not right out hateful towards Jews and Christians. Remember this book is taught, by all Muslim sects, to be the literal word of God unchanging, and applicable to all times and places. Every exhortation, word for word, is as applicable today as it was in the 7th century. The old testament has some pretty hairy crap in it, but I challenge you to find any Jews or Christians (except for some tiny crazy cult) that advocates stoning adulterers or killing disobedient children. We have collectively dropped pretty much all the truly barbaric crap found in the old testament.

Here is an exercise for you. Look up a list of radical Islamic literature, like Milestones, and anti-Semitic books like The International Jew or Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Now go to any Mosque library or Islamic bookstore in the country (or the world for that matter, Mein Kampf is very popular in Pakistan). It's very likely you will find at least a few of the books on that list if you really look (they may be in Arabic). Now if it is a truly moderate Mosque then hopefully they will have cleansed the library of that stuff, but you may be surprised. I've done this with an Islamic bookstore in the US and it was chilling. I have also found anti-Semitic literature among books available at a Mosque, but this was by chance in Malaysia, so maybe I'm jumping to conclusions regarding Mosques. Tell me what you find. I hope I'm wrong.

From what I've heard about the guy behind the New York mosque, I do think he is a moderate, and I bet they would do there best to keep extremists from preaching there, but building it so close to ground zero is a stupid idea. He does have the moral high ground in the sense that America is all about the free exercise of religion, but it is completely foolish to give such a slap to the emotional face of the majority of non-Muslims in the US just because you have the right to. It's like building an Eastern Orthodox community center next to the spot of the Srebrenica massacre, and saying it is about building tolerance. I'm sure nobody would support that, especially not the Muslim community, and that would be completely understandable. This mosque is tragically ill conceived and the folks who support it would never advocate building a Christian community center (with a Church in it) next to the site of a massacre against Muslims.

It's been nine years and still nothing's been done to replace the Towers except talk and platatudes. If the site were as important to the elites of this country as the public feels it to be then it wouldn't continue to be an empty hole the ground. All this controversy about the Mosque is just a distraction to make pertubations in the public while the elites sit back and laugh at the rest of us. The rich and powerful in this country don't give a shit about the values of nationhood expressed so rightfully by all on this board.
