I had a really good trip to Syracuse this time. A couple of fallen-through appointments, and a fair amount of sitting around and waiting for not long enough to accomplish anything (my phone Sudoku app is great for this), but overall a pretty good time that I'm glad to have had.
And I was reminded of one of my favorite parts of doing this: The fact that I get to eat at more restaurants than just the local ones.
It wasn't something I'd thought of initially, of course. But it's become one of the things I most look forward to. Whether it's enjoying the local breweries or the Beers of the World in Rochester (before I went gluten-free), or just enjoying a local dive... going to see a girl or going to schedule some clients, I enjoy some damn good food.
(Today was the Turning Stone buffet. OM-NOM-NOM.)
I figure it's the same for everyone--passing outside of your "normal" comfort zones and boundaries leads to a lot of new experiences and fun things you'd have never expected. We all expect to blow our load... but how many expect to get into a funny conversation about that video game we grew up with and didn't realize anyone else knew, or see a park with fresh-planted roses in an area of town we don't usually see, or ... any of it?
This is a thread to explore those happy accidents. Let us know, and remind us to look for the happy moments in our own experiences.
(I know a lot of you started hobbying a long time ago, and there's nothing much new left. By all means, old stories are just as fun as new ones! Maybe even moreso, because it involves stepping into an entirely different setting. I wanna hear it all.)
Look forward to hearing from you!
