New number? Area code matter?

Looking at getting a new phone number but having problems getting a local area code. Does that matter? Does a Dallas or Austin area code matter if you are residing in west texas? Any red flags thrown up or is it maybe better to distant your number from your stomping grounds?

I think in this day an age there are so many people with #s from different ACs it doesn`t matter.

I'll have to look into ting. Good thing about google voice is it can be sent to and replied to from the email inbox

Ting is not a private service. They are just another billing company. They use Sprint network.

They actually use sprint with free roaming on Verizon and other networks.
