Anyone

Is anyone going to sturgis this year? What is the easiest route?
I'm thinking of going, it will be my first time.
Anyone have any info they think I should know please share.
Easiest, would probably be interstate out of Lincoln to Ogallala or even Sidney, then straight up thru Alliance and Chadron. I don't like interstates with my Harley so I normally pick from these routes: highway 2 all the way to Alliance then north thru SD. #2. Go north and catch highway 20 thru nebraskas sandhills for a beautiful/peaceful ride. Be careful to calculate the distance between towns and gas in your tank, especially on Sundays and late night rides, no allnight stations there. #3 Ride to Valentine then go north thru these South D towns: Mission,White River, Cedar Butte, Wamblee, Interior. Then ride highway 240 thru the Badlands and up to I-90 at Wall. Get your glass of water at Wall Drug and ride west the last 50 miles to Rapid on interstate. Route 3 is my favorite, much more back woods highways, scenery. But I am not sure if my wife would ride those quiet roads alone the whole way. There will be hundreds of bikers all the way, and I personally know you can handle us bikers just fine Im guessing if my wife knew how to handle bikers, I wouldn't have ever met you! If you want easy and no interstate, then highway 2 thru Nebr. to Alliance is faster, I think speed limit through much of it is 85-90 for Harleys. GRINS

I don't want to get on any interstates, they scare me. I won't be riding alone, a girl friend of mine is riding up too and i'm sure more people we join before we hit the road.
Bikers, nah they don't scare me. lol
It's threads like this that make me wish I had bigger balls and a Harley.....or Lady Y had a sidecar.

Its fun but the cost of hotels is way to high for my taste.... I always go to Rapid city after the rally is over ....

Willy stated the route I take when I go up. Still debating if I will slip up there this year. Last year was a blast, but most of the friends can't go this year and the wife gets nervous around so many bikes and traffic etc......so unless I find someone to hang out with or make the ride with, I may skip this year.

If you go, be sure to ride up to Deadwood, Rushmore, and Spearfish. Just be careful on turns....lost too many Nebraskans last year on turns (probably a bit too much drinking with a few of the incidents). And of course, hang out at Full Throttle for a while....always crazy there.

I've decided to wait until next year. I need more time to plan and get things in order, plus I would really like to ride up on something bigger than a sportster, all the 200, 300 mile trips I have been taking tell me I need a more comfortable bike for the trip.

that's what makes it an adventure, can make as many stops as we need......that's more than half the fun!
