Downtown -vs- Ridgeland

I'll be in Jackson in early December and have stayed in both downtown and Ridgeland, Downtown being my favorite- but for the sake of hobbying, which do you all think is better?
Also, does anyone know anything of the Hilton Garden Inn in Downtown? Does it have safe, free parking and easy access to the hotel floors above? Controlled key access sucks!! :-)

THANKS!!!

I personally would prefer a provider that was downtown versus ridgeland but that may just be my preference not everyone else's. The hilton garden inn downtown is a cool hotel. They do have safe parking but it's not free unless you are a Hilton Diamond member like myself. No card access at the front door as they have concierge and valet at the front doors basically around the clock. Hope this helps.
Thanks Photoguy! Do you need a key to go up into the elevator?

I guess it just depends on who you ask. I hate downtown.

During the day it may be convenient for those working down there, but at night who want's to worry about whether their car is still there when they get ready to leave. Pay to park in hotel parking deck or take your chances on the street.

Other than the ability to order room service I never really found much of an advantage to staying downtown.

It's so much easier getting in and out in Ridgeland.
Downtown would make things harder for some but easier for others. Parking is a pain in the ass though and IF you were to park on the street, you may get a parking ticket which you'd have to explain WHY you were downtown LOL
