What is a referrel

So under statistics, I have four referrals. What does that mean, that someone signed up for an account and credited me with telling them about ECCIE?

It means you told someone about Eccie, and they registered. While registering they filled in the part where it ask if you were referred by someone. If they put your name there, then you have a referral.

There's also an "invite new member" function to send a link to someone you want to invite to join. If they follow the link and sign up, it will give you a referral credit.

There appears to be some sort of glitch in the system where you may get referrals even if you didn't refer someone.

I think referrals don't actually get you anything.
