Been to the one on 1604 near UTSA, quite a few times . Didn't know that there was one going in on Bitters.

Tried it last week. The chicken was okay. Sides were interesting. Want to go back and try the meat and/or pork dish.

If you want some mother fucking tasty ass grilled chicken you need to hit up one of the few HEB's in town that have the Flaming Bird. That bird is the word.

Not on the map link, but the HEB at 1604 / Kitty Hawk just added the flaming bird.

Was wondering about Pollo Tropical. But how can you do Carribean without jerk chicken? C'mon.

Milanesa tortas sounds good - where do you get that?

On a related note, if you want great chicken, try one of the Monterrey-style pollo rostizado places:

-- Pollo Regio on Fredericksburg Rd.
-- Al's Regio Grill, at Babcock near Hillcrest
-- Pollos Asados los Norteņos, on Rigsby near WW White Road

My brother brought some to the house.
He was really waiting for it to open.
*ALL* the meats tasted plain and without spices.
That did it in for me.
Two of the sides were okay.

I agree with P_b, the meat lack the Tropical (Caribbean) spices/flavor. I have been to Florida and a few islands in the Caribbean, and the food there has a lot more flavor. I tend to stop by Pollo Loco for the grilled chicken more than the side dishes.
Pollo Tropical isowned by Taco Cabana & will expand in Texas as will El Pollo Loco. Of course both are corp owned & are developed to get a certain return (Profit)-- nothing wrong with that but when the push for profits takes place then quality etc suffers. I better get my azz to the hole in the wall joins.

Haven't been was thinking about trying it out,but based on the above comments, about lack of flavor I'll pass.

You guys can't hate on Pollo Tropical!! ...Texas just hasn't gotten it down yet.
Pollo Tropical was (is?) the only "fast food" I have ever liked.. and they even claim not to fill the chicken up with antibiotics and other non-politically correct things.
It is so yummy in Florida..even better in Miami.
I have been to the La Cantera location and I have noticed it has a lot to do with the time of day you go so far...from my experience the day crew has it a little more down than the night crew...ok, a lot more down...in fact...stay far away at night..something's just not right then..but the 2 times I have been early in the day it made me homesick.
Now, I do agree that, what kind of self respecting Caribbean joint wouldn't serve Jerk... lol..it's beyond me, but well.... it is what it is...a "fast food " version of a few "caribbean" menu items. But it's really yummy when they get it right !!
As for the sides, I love the black beans and brown rice..(I always get a 1/4 chicken white meat) and the side caesar salad... Dakota likes the corn souffle so much she made me make some with Thanksgiving diner.lol... I found a yummy recipe online..
So..I am keepin the faith

I have also had this Flamming bird you speak of..it too is yummy
