Something I wish never happen's again!

Okay, well all dread that uncomfortable possibility that we may one day run into a hobbyist that we have seen while with our personal friends, or family, and it has to be the same for the hobbyist as well.. Well on Tuesday, I decided I would stay in, buy a bottle of wine, and watch a few old time black & white's. I am pulling into kroger, and see a really good friend of my family with her her kids, and on the way into the store.

I park, and walk in, and she see's me, so we spark up a convo, she tells me her husband was on the way in, and she couldn't remember if I had met him, (he is actually husband number 4). Well, as it ends up, I knew him better than she would probably like.

We had that unbearable silent moment, and pretty much ended the whole convo. I made up some excuse, and his ass, wasn't any help either!

I didn't just have a bottle of wine, I had a couple after that experience!

It has happened to me, too. Only twice in many years.

I ran into a now retired ATF in one of those car washes where you give them your car, you go inside and sit while they wash it. I was sitting there with a family member when my then hobby ATF comes in and sits down across from us. Neither she nor I initially recognized the other as I was in convo with the family member and she was watching something on the TV they put in those places. Once I looked up I saw her as she glanced my way, and we instantly recognized the situation. Both of us played it cool. No acknowledgment of any kind.

She and I contacted each other through the hobby the next day (my initiative) and set up another session and later laughed about the situation.

This is a far cry from your very much more personal encounter. Wow.

There is also a now retired hobby companion that through a mutual business contact I have come to know outside the hobby. This was after her retirement She is now married and completely out of the hobby. The person that knows each of us and introduced us is not in the hobby in any way. We interact on occasion and simply pretend like we never knew each other before being introduced, and it is cool.

Guys out there: it will eventually happen. Do not acknowledge knowing the other person. You are strangers outside this hobby. Right?
I feel the same exact way! I don't know you, and you don't know me...

ditto

I have run into hobbyists while partying at the clubs on Bourbon Street...we just smile at each other and wink!
I had intentions of taking a provider from Dallas to the New years eve party last year then discovered my daughter and her husband would be there. I cancelled the date. Several days later I mentioned to my daughter that I had canceled the date because she would be there. She laughed and said she wished I had brought the lady as she wouldn't have minded.
I ran into two different ladies I have seen while out and about but both times I was alone. The first was a a small dairy bar where I go for ice cream. We both recognized each other but did not acknowledge. The second time was at a flea market. The young lady spoke to me and handed me a business card for the person who's booth she was at, but no acknowledgment of the hobby.
I can only imagine how uncomfortable your situation must have been!!
