Nikki,
Its an interesting idea to verify hobbyists which would cut out people like freefree. We all benefit by keeping them outside the fence, so to speak! However, I think you are right when you say police intervention is unavoidable if not inevitable. If/when LE decides to come knocking, there is little that can be done. Who wants to spend the time/money and risk their reputation by getting drawn into a potentially messy legal battle? Let's just hope we stay off the radar and out of the media so taking down the site won't become the feather in the cap of some over-zealous D.A. or police department!
Certainly cutting links to people who get busted (such as freefree) helps to keep the site off the screen, but somewhere, in some city, LE has to know about the site to some extent. It's part of the risk of belonging to a community which has sections spanning across city, state and even international lines! I think there is little that can be done by the owners, or anyone else, to keep the site off the radar forever. Just be safe, screen (which sucks for someone without references like me
) and enjoy the ride while it lasts, because nothing lasts forever! Happy Hobbying everyone!
