Ban Links from Social Networking Sites like Facebook, Twitter, et al

There was a suggestion in another thread that Twitter accounts be linked to this site: [ame="http://www.eccie.net/showthread.php?t=9559"]http://www.eccie.net/showthread.php?t=9559[/ame].

I would vehemently oppose that, and hope the mods decide to oppose it also. I think only disaster can come from this. Members on this board who would like to remain anonymous would be put at risk if such public access were allowed.

This ban should be true for other public social networking sites also.
Agreed. I opt out of all these social networking sites for personal reasons. If you wnat to use one of them, that's fine. have it on your site which is on the showcases.

Everyone mischaracterizes the yahoo document you link. ALL internet services will give any of your information away when LE requests it. The yahoo document simply lists the procedures to file a request for information and specifies how much money it will charge to provide the info.

It's good that yahoo does charge money for such information, especially on a per-user basis. Without a per-user charge, some Gestapo agency would simply say, "We need your entire database so we can search it for a name we can't disclose to you," or some such scam to get the entire database or a large group of userID's for a fishing expedition.

I do wish yahoo would specify a much higher fee per user, along with something such as "each individual data request will be reviewed by an independent legal firm at a fee of $200," but I doubt the courts would allow it.

Yahoo is being reprehensible for trying to prevent disclosure of the document, and reprehensible and STOOPID for using DMCA to try and stop it.
