It looks like the police were called after he started getting physical with them in the hallway, outside his room. Nothing like drawing attention to yourself, when you're doing something illegal. If he's beating women, then he needed to be arrested.

Sapp should have established communication with the comedian Artie Lange.

Artie Lange always talks about his past exploits with hookers, prostitutes, and who-uhs(whores as he would pronounce it sometimes),

To him, it would be easy and natural for him to find one and hook up with them. Plus they would have hit it off as he's a football fan also.
