I knew her music a little, and had been thinking of going to a concert of hers.. I knew she played this area often.. I remember getting off work, hitting Barnes and Noble first, where I read Selena had booked a date in Fort Worth, for Cinco De Mayo.. "good", I thought, that is an ideal time/place to see her!

arrived home and turned on the news.. her killer was still holed up in her car, the police were trying to coax her out.. finally she emerged and was arrested.

TV News showed many local people gathered in the streets to mourn.. I had no idea she was so hugely popular, to garner that reaction..

She was the first female to have success in Tejano music. As a result, she is a hero and an icon in the Hispanic community... PARTICULARLY among the girls.

I got to meet her once when I was in high school. Very personable, very sweet, very down to Earth. You'd never guess she was a celebrity by the way she acted. Beyond approachable. That kindness is part of what led to her death.
I think that was the movie role that put Jennifer Lopez on the map.
Selena was great in all she did. It is hard to believe that is has been 20 years since her death.

Being from the same area as her, this was unbelievable at the time. One of those "remember where you where when" type of moments for that area.

She was going to make it big time, she would still have a great career if she was alive today.
Shot by the President of her Fan Club. Too strange!

I do not know about how things are now in Houston. For many years a easy way to commit assisted suicide was to go to Mexican bar and yell loudly "Selena Sucks" Folks took that way too seriously
