Richie Havens, Folk Icon, Dead at 72

He died yesterday of a heart attack at his home in Jersey City, New Jersey.

He was a seminal anti-war protest song writer whose 60s songs are just as relevant today, maybe even more so now, than back in the 60s!......

A few of his best tunes:

Didn't he open at the vert first Woodstock?
"Freedom"..
He died in 2013. I Staff Edit with him in 91 or 92 when he played hamilton college. By far One of the coolest things to ever happen to me.
Richie Havens (January 21, 1941 – April 22, 2013) as a live performer earned widespread notice. His Woodstock appearance in 1969 catapulted him into stardom and was a major turning point in his career. As the festival's first performer, he held the crowd for nearly three hours. In part, Havens was told to continue playing, because many artists scheduled to perform after him were delayed in reaching the festival location with highways at a virtual standstill.
