Suggestions on what areas to stay in Knoxville, Nashville and Memphis?

I am going to be visiting next week and it will be the first time so I am curious what areas are best to stay in. Please don't list specific locations, just general areas. If it is anything very specific please PM.

Memphis: most ladies stay in the I240/Poplar area.

Airport, downtown area, or brentwood(Davidson county east of I-65). Avoid Brentwood and Franklin, both in Williamson County, like the plague. It is very hot down here with leo lately.

Just to be safe, you probably should mention that you're talking about the Nashville area here. I can't speak for the lovely Ms. Chang, but until I moved to Tennessee I wouldn't have been able to name Brentwood or Franklin, or Davidson and Williamson Counties, as being in the Nashvegas area. She may be as ignorant as I was of Tennessee geography.
