I know what they are but why are they so popular with the gay crowd?

Say what you want about gay men, but they like their beef hot, lean and juicy and they ain't shy about going back for seconds on the dipping sauce.

In addition to the high/euphoria you can get with other drugs, it has sexually stimulating effects (increased heart rate, sensation of heat and excitement, lowered blood pressure, increased sexual arousal). They also relax the muscles in the anus (and the vagina, but that's not really a consideration for gay guys), so I imagine that's a plus. Also, I assume the fact that it's a gas makes it more convenient to use in a number of settings than other recreational drugs.

P.S. I studied recreational drugs in college, I don't do them myself.
