Hobby phone without a second phone

I recently stumbled across an APP for an iphone (dont know about others) that is a Burner phone. From what i have done with it, it seems pretty darn good. I Have not tried it w/in the hobby; but I have seriously comfused family members. While the APP itself is free there are in-app purchases, extra time with a specfic number etc...
