Backpage just lost a source of income

Saw this feed on EFF.org

MasterCard and Visa no longer processing payments to BackPage

guess that means prepaid cards will have to be used

what it also means is prepaid cards have very little if ANY papertrail.

AKA those that DO post ads will have to get a prepaid card.. thus harder to track em

It still ain't going to keep BP hoes from winning. ( I know it's not my line but everyone at least gets one free pass at saying that right?)

Not to mention there are other credit and debit companies out there.
That means that NO Visa or Mastercard payments will be taken. This includes prepaid cards with the Visa/Mastercard logo... they already don't take AmEx (which I use) so this wasn't too far behind. They were taking that bitcoin crap for awhile.. guess that wasn't working out. I'm sure that they'll find a way to take payments sooner or later

I admit to not reading as much of National Co-ed as I should, and appreciate the info. Thanks, GPop. Good article.

I occasionally post on BP, and this will be a problem for me. I see no reason to go out of my way to pay another way. Seems very unfair, as legitimate goods and services are being advertised. Jeez, bad enough the government is enforcing outdated Puritanism, but financial institutions have no standing whatsoever and shouldn't be getting involved. The CC charges are processed out of the USA in a country where prostitution is legal, for heaven's sake, so who cares? America is not the moral compass of the world.

Since there are so many problems with payments right now, BP is allowing free classified ads at the moment, and is quickly being overwhelmed. They will have to find another way to make a buck soon, or go under.

There's always exchange of services.
This is very much like why the government wants to shut down BitCoins.. as it can be used for ANYTHING and its almost impossible to trace.

I occasionally put ads on Backpage and hopefully it won't affect me much, or I might have to send up money orders to them. Looks like they got a bit of Karma thrown their way. They are offering free ads, but I think that is probably unsustainable since I would imagine provider ads would be their main source of income
