When I went out to my car after work last night, I came across a flyer for Foxy's Christmas Party. I'm thinking about going - will I see anybody there?

#30 - ECCIE does not, in any way, sponsor or represent social events, meet and greets, or similar activities. On occasion, events may be announced here by our members, however, ECCIE is not associated with or responsible for such events. We are not involved with any related aspects, such as guest selection, screening, or hosting. Should members of our volunteer staff choose to participate in such an event, it should be understood that their personal involvement is of their own choice and responsibility, and in no way connected to their duties here on staff. If you are the host of one of these events, we will allow for ONE "announcement" post to inform the membership, which will be immediately locked to prevent further public discussions regarding the event.
Since none of us are the host, does this mean we can have a thread with some discussion for a change instead of it getting locked immediately?
It is OK to discuss an event open to the public.

Just so all are clear, the notice came to me in the form of a pink slip of paper (covered with light snow) tucked under the wiper on my car. That said, the flyer says 12/26 starting at 6pm - buffet and the such (I don't have the slip with me right now). I don't remember seeing a fee listed, but we all know there will be one.

I've got a family function all day, but am currently planning on going around 10pm or so.

Seriously, it is not a black-and-white judgment call. Guidelines aside, what we don't want to get into is the appearance of helping to promote an event - that is, in my humble and uneducated opinion.

The PARTY!

PS: Jack, that almost felt like you wanted to hug me
GP, actually I am not as senile as you think. Arvin's party (http://www.eccie.net/showthread.php?...ighlight=party) was by invitation only and was not open to the public, consistent with my opinion in Post #4 here. But you're right: I did not have to close that thread.

I did not know it was by invite only.
GP, if you want to interpret the party notice literally to mean that it is wide open to the general public, I cannot argue with you. I am just going with what I know in reality.
