Good Live Music In Corpitos Saturday Night 1/16

San Antonio Blues Guitar Player/Vocalist Ruben V is playing at Vino Mio tonight. Ruben V-Vela is a Corpus Christi Native, he was born & raised in Corpitos. Local C.C. Band The Rockoholics is playing at Black Monk Tavern. Local C.C. Band Lyrical Bynge with the Dynamite Lead Singer Edna De La Garza is playing at It'll Do Saloon. Borderline Band is playing at South Texas Icehouse. Local C.C. Band The Electrotypes is playing at Rockits Whiskey Bar. Shane Smith & The Saints is playing at the Executive Surf Club. Philip Griffin Band is playing at Pelican Lounge. RESZ is playing at Talons Sports Bar. Metal Shop Dallas is playing at Brewster Street Icehouse. Eden Burning, Zombie King, Bleed By Example is playing at House Of Rock. Ricardo Castillon y La Diferenzia is playing at Twisted T.

I plan on going to see either Ruben V at Vino Mio or The Rockoholics at Black Monk Tavern or maybe see both. Spend some time at each Bar. Cover Charge at Vino Mio is $5, Black Monk Tavern did not have a Cover Charge when I went last Saturday night.

I went to the Executive Surf Club last night-Friday night and saw Aloha Dave & The Tourists. They have been playing as a Band since the 1980's. Aloha Dave & The Tourists are Ray Summy-lead guitar/vocals, the Maroney Brothers-Mark-bass guitar/vocals, Dave-guitar/vocals & Bill Purcell-drummer. They are a bunch of Old Surfer Dudes in their 50's like me. They attended King High School, I attended Ray High School here in Corpitos. It had been many years since I had seen Aloha Dave & The Tourists perform/play. They are still an Excellent Band in my humble opinion.

Last Saturday night I went to the Black Monk Tavern and saw Local C.C. Musician Ty Dietz & his lead guitar player Tony Saracene perform/play at the Black Monk Tavern. Ty Dietz plays Americana Folk/Texas Country Music-Original Songs that he wrote & Cover Tunes. Ty Dietz is an Excellent Musician in my humble opinion, I like his Music. Ty Dietz is also a Cool Friendly Dude. I have been a Fan of Ty Dietz's Music for around 8 years. There was a good size crowd at the Black Monk Tavern to see Ty Dietz & Tony Saracene perform/play.

The Black Monk Tavern is the Original Black Diamond Oyster Bar located on Gollihar almost to Airline-down the road from King High School. It was the Bair's Den Bar after Black Diamond Oyster Bar closed their original location. If you are a Corpitos Native & an Old Fucker like me, you will know the exact location of Black Monk Tavern. Fuedo's Grocery Store used to be located right in front of the Black Diamond Oyster Bar on Airline.
I went to the Black Monk Tavern and saw the Rockoholics perform/play. This was my first time to see the Rockoholics, I liked them/their music. The Rockoholics are a 3 piece band-Cody Gonzalez plays electric guitar/vocals, his brother plays drums & a bass player. They play Rock n' Roll & some Heavy Metal Music, they have some original songs. There was a small crowd, I left before the Rockoholics finished playing their first set to go see Ruben V perform/play at Vino Mio.

Ruben V was on break when I got to Vino Mio. I shook hands & said hello with Squirrel/Jason the Manager of Vino Mio & ordered a Coke. I stayed for one set of Ruben V and went back to the Black Monk Tavern. Squirrel/Jason was the Manager at Dr. Rockits Blues Bar for 10 years, he used to book all the Bands that played there. He books some of the same Bands at Vino Mio.

There was a bigger crowd at Black Monk Tavern on my second visit. The Rockoholics played some Ted Nugent, Georgia Satellites, Romantics, some Original songs, a Rocking version of the Johnny Cash song Folsom Prison Blues. I will definitely go out & see the Rockoholics perform/play again.
