movie sequels and remakes

What movie sequels do you think surpassed the original and a remake of a movie that surpassed the original?

I say T2 was better than the original effects wise mainly

The Godfather 2 since it had DeNiro

remakes

Theses were equal to or slightly better

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Dawn of the Dead

Day of the Dead

Friday the 13th

Halloween(Rob Zombie's among the best)

On sequels, "Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan" was much better than "Star Trek: The Motion Picture", IMO The Wrath of Khan is the best of all the Star Trek movies.

On remakes the one that stands out the most is "Sabrina" in that the 1995 sequel is as good as the 1954 original. I can't decide which is best although I prefer Harrison Ford over Bogart but then prefer Audrey Hepburn over Julia Ormond. While I prefer watching the 1954 then the 1995 version, watching them the other way still doesn't help in deciding which is best.

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen was a great sequel to Transformers.

I think Mad Max: Road Warrior was better than Mad Max.

I also dig the Cape Fear remake over the original.

The Bourne series was one of those rarities where I thought each sequel was better than the last.

Aliens is right up there with the original. Hard to say which is better as they were very different from each other.

For that matter, the heroine, sort of, in Hostel 2 - Beth? - was way cool.
I think the last Rambo (or Rambo 4 if you prefer) was the best of the bunch.

I'm really surprised nobody has tried to remake Jaws yet.
