Against my better judgement I think I'm going to take up golf again

I haven't played in almost 20 years. The last time I hit the links was in '98 and it was the best round I ever played. The Mirage golf course in Las Vegas, I made three eagles, two of them in a row, and finished -4 par. The next day I was getting ready to go play again but then it occurred to me that I would never play as well as I did the day before so I decided then and there to quit and go out on a high note.

Over the weekend I dug out my old Ping copies so I could give them to the son of one of my employees. He caught the golf bug this past spring and wants to join the golf team at school. When he and his dad came by to pick them up we talked about the game for a while. This weekend I think I'm going to go look for a new set of clubs.

If I do buy new clubs, where should I go play in El Paso? I've never golfed there. Any driving ranges? I'll be there in two week and I know for a fact I'll have any entire afternoon with nothing to do.

Golf is a lot like the hobby, you spend a lot of money to get it into the hole and many times you end up frustrated and disappointed.

There is a driving range off Lee Trevino.

I wouldn't sleep on Ascarate. Especially for the price. Great hobby course.

The following are the best public courses:

Butterfield Trail Course - Tom Fazio design course with good ammenities
http://www.butterfieldtrailgolf.com/

Painted Dunes ... Award winning course
http://www.painteddunes.com/

Vista Hills - once private now open to the public is a bit older but still ok
http://www.vistahillscc.com/

Lone Star - Near the airport is a good cheap starter course

Avoid Ascarate, Santa Teresa closed years ago, most of the others are private

Las Cruces has a few nice ones as well.
Thanks for the info Twain. Unfortunately golf is going to be put off for a few weeks. I wiped out yesterday afternoon on my kitchen floor and fucked up my shoulder.

I find golf addicting like the hobby. The more you play, the more you want to play!! & both are expensive. I think I wil stick with the hobby. I never got my rocks off playing golf.
