i am leaving on a 5 day cruise out of galveston on monday..i am coming down sunday to galveston.. are the beaches worth getting in town early for? consider am from florida so kinda spoiled..

good places to grab dinner?

like i said.. i have never been to galveston and if there is not a huge reason to rush down then i will take my time..eat dinner and check in and rest my 7 month preggo ass up for the trip

i have tried checking online..of course most sites will say its good beaches they want you to come there

friends have mixed feelings..some vacation there..others hated it

If you like Florida beaches, my favorite is in Clearwater, sugar sand, clean, parking lots, showers and life guards. Then Galveston will certainly be a disappointment. I wouldn't say you're spoiled, But being from Florida your "Beach-Bar" is already set pretty high. I can't think of any stellar eateries since hurricane "Ike". Play it safe and eat at "Pappasitos". Have a safe trip! Your cabin stewarts can be your best friend. They will bend over backwards for you. Make sure to take care of them at the end of your trip.

Plus the water temperature is still in the 50s, and the onshore wind is uncomfortable if you are on the beach. However it is Mardi Gras in Galveston, and the parades are fun to watch. If you want seafood instead of Mexican, Landry's on the seawall is dependable and good..............
thanks for the tips.. i kinda figured "enjoying" the beach as in water temp might not happen.. but appreciate the tips and info.. didn't know about mardi gras and good to hear there is a papasitos and a landrys as I do LOVE both places..

and ya pyro.. I always treat my waiter for dinner and cabin person nicely..they are always my bestest friends when i cruise

thanks again guys..that was very very helpful!!!

Compared to florida the beaches suck, the fishing can be great though. Lots of good restaurants , Fish Tails, Giado's, Willie G's, Fisherman's Warf, Clary's, one of my fav's is the Cajun Greek on 61st. There are quite a few more. Just my .02
